 If your teen is in need of orthodontic work to adjust crooked, or misaligned teeth, gone are the days when traditional metal braces, wires, and rubber bands were the only orthodontic choice. Invisalign clear aligners are a new alternative to traditional metal braces when it comes to aligning your teeth. At Senestraro Family Orthodontics we recommend and provide Invisalign clear aligners to all of our patients.
How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign are clear aligner trays that our dentist will create, custom fit to your teeth. Each aligner tray is worn for approximately two weeks before you will start a new set of trays. Your teeth will gradually shift into position using the aligner trays. Aligner trays are meant to be worn most of the day, with the only exception taking them out to eat and to brush your teeth.
What Are the Benefits of Invisalign?
Invisalign Aligners Are Clear
Invisalign are clear aligners, meaning they are virtually unnoticeable to anyone that you are even wearing them. This is especially beneficial to already self-conscious teens. Traditional, metal, very noticeable, bulky braces are no longer needed. Clear aligners are also beneficial to adults who want to straighten their teeth, but not be self-conscious about wearing braces.
Less Office Visits
With Invisalign there are less visits to our dental office versus with traditional metal braces that require routine visits for tightening of wires and adjustments. With Invisalign, we give you the set of trays and you simply exchange them out every two weeks, or as directed by our dentist.
Quicker Treatment Plan
Another benefit of Invisalign is a quicker treatment plan. With regular braces, treatment usually takes an average of two years. With Invisalign, you will complete your treatment much quicker, usually within six to 18 months, depending on your personal situation.
No Food Restrictions
Unlike with braces, where sticky candy and hard foods can get stuck in between your teeth and brackets and wires, this is not a problem with Invisalign. Because the aligners are removable, you will take them out while eating or brushing your teeth. There are no food restrictions with Invisalign.
Easy Oral Hygiene Maintenance
As mentioned, Invisalign is to be removed while brushing and flossing your teeth. This allows you to easily clean your teeth as you normally would. There is no added difficulty in trying to brush between brackets and wires and needing to purchase special flossers in order to clean your teeth.
Is There Anyone That Cannot Use Invisalign?
Invisalign is meant to treat minor tooth alignment. It can also be used to treat underbites, overbites, and crossbites. However, If you or your teen have severely misaligned or overcrowded teeth, or a jaw out of alignment, a different orthodontic option may suit you better.
