Why Braces?

Braces are made from brackets and wires. Brackets are cemented to your teeth with dental adhesive. Then we use wires to straighten out your teeth, re-space your teeth, or correct a bite. When you come in to see us about braces, we will make impressions and use x-rays to make a plan for your mouth. After we put your braces on, you come in to see us every other month, and we adjust the wires that are on your teeth. The wires and brackets act together to move your teeth over time. This movement is less painful when it happens gradually, rather than all of your teeth moving all at once.
Perhaps you have bottom teeth that are crowded too closely together. We make impressions or models of your bottom teeth. We might even make a 3D model of your bottom teeth so that we can make a plan to fix your bottom teeth. The plan involves moving your teeth gradually along your bottom jaw. We can not only straighten your lower teeth, but we can turn or move your teeth around as well with braces.
You need to know that braces can’t fix your teeth immediately. Over the months of treatment, braces are amazingly effective. Braces can move your teeth and straighten your teeth permanently. Braces can also help you if you have trouble chewing, or if you have had jaw pain in the past. If your teeth were overcrowded before, braces could re-space your teeth, which will make it easier for you to brush and floss your teeth.
